“If you spend your whole life waiting for the storm, you’ll never enjoy the sunshine.” – Morris West
Friends can help each other. A true friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself – and especially to feel. Or, not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That’s what real love amounts to – letting a person be what he really is.
Good morning! Wishing everyone a wonderful MLK Day!
“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”
― Edith Lovejoy Pierce
Ok, this is it.
This is the year I’m actually going to stick my New Year’s resolution.
I have never actually stuck a New Year’s Resolution. To be honest, it’s sad. I have written a New Year’s Resolution for nearly 12 years and every year I have forgotten it within a week and by the end of the year I have absolutely no clue where my resolutions are. And even though I have my resolutions on Pinterest here, I still did not stick to them.
But this year I’m making my resolution super simple – I will be successful this year by my definition of success, I am going to get this blog going again and keep it going and I am going to start a YouTube.
It doesn’t get simpler than that.
“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
– Audrey Hepburn
Sing me a song
of teapots and trumpets:
Trumpots and teapets
and tippets and taps,
tripper and trappers
and jelly bean wrappers
and pigs in pajamas
with zippers and snaps.
Sing me a song
of sneakers and snoopers:
Snookers and sneapers
and snappers and snacks,
snorkels and snarkles,
a seagull that gargles,
and gargoyles and gryphons
and other knickknacks.
Sing me a song
of parsnips and pickles:
Picsnips and parkles
and pumpkins and pears,
plumbers and mummers
and kettle drum drummers
and plum jam (yum-yum jam)
all over their chairs.
Sing me a song –
but never you mind it!
I’ve had enough
of this nonsense. Don’t cry.
Criers and fliers
and onion ring fryers –
It’s more than I want to put up with!
Sing Me A Song of Teapots and Trumpets by N.M. Bodecker
My mom really likes to send out poems and riddles for every holiday possible. This is her most recent one for Mother’s Day and I love it.
- “I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn. And we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them. And we help them in return. Well, I don’t know if I believe that’s true, but I know I’m who I am today because I knew you…” – For Good, Wicked
- “It well may be that we will never meet again in this lifetime so let me say before we part, so much of me is made from what I learned from you; you’ll be with me Like a hand print on my heart. And now whatever way our stories end I know you have re-written mine by being my friend…” – For Good, Wicked
- “Something has changed within me, something is not the same. I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game. Too late for second-guessing, too late to go back to sleep. It’s time to trust my instincts, close my eyes: and leap!”“It’s time to try defying gravity. I think I’ll try defying gravity. And you can’t pull me down!”
“I’m through accepting limits ’cause someone says they’re so. Some things I cannot change, but till I try, I’ll never know! Too long I’ve been afraid of losing love I guess I’ve lost. Well, if that’s love it comes at much too high a cost!” – Defying Gravity, Wicked
These quotes have meant so much to me in the past month. They have helped me get over things, get back into things and forgive people I didn’t think I could forgive. It’s been a whirlwind, but I’m glad I have this musical to help me get through it.
When I think about all the teachers I could have had for American History B, I know how lucky I am because without him, I would have never been able to see Forrest Gump. And I’m so glad I did. I really want my own Forrest now. My goal in life is to have a friend just like him.
“So I kiss goodbye to every little ounce of pain
Light a cigarette and wish the world away
I got out, I got out, I’m alive but I’m here to stay”
–Two Fingers by Jake Bugg
“We are healthy only to the extent that our ideas are humane.”
– Kurt Vonnegut
“We are never so vulnerable as when we love.”
– Sigmund Freud
The gratification comes in the doing, not in the results. – James Dean
