Once upon a time, I had a MySpace and all of my friend’s did, too. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I posted hundreds of statuses, photos and all else you could do on that website back three years ago. I honestly can’t even remember, it’s been that long since it was cool. Anyway, the website lost its appeal and everyone moved on to twitter or Facebook. Well, one day about two months ago, I saw a tweet about the new MySpace coming out that day and how no one knew and/or cared and it made me curious. I mean, MySpace had tried changing things on the site, but all of it made it worse. A “new” site was exactly what they needed.
My curiosity got the best of me and I went to take a look at the site. And boy was I in shock.
It was gorgeous. Based around music and made to promote bands, bloggers, curators and others, it’s exactly what MySpace should have been all along. Now I feel like it’s actually my space to create and share things with the people connected to me. Yes, connected. You see, instead of having to accept friend requests which means you’re forced to get a person’s posts in your feed when they were ones who wanted to see yours, not vice versa, you can now connect to whose posts and music you want to see and you don’t have to see who’s you don’t.
It’s kind of like Twitter just with more substance.
And then for the music junkies/graphic artists, you can create mixes (playlists) with any songs you’d like and an image of your choice. They also have radio stations based off artists and songs. It’s like Pandora just everything on the radio makes sense and is actually similar in some way.
Personally, I’m proud of MySpace for finally getting their act together. I probably Justin Timberlake to thank, but I’ll save that for another post.
